[New Music] Tobacco A-Go-Go Comp LP.

Just snagged another quick LP restock from the fine folks over at Paradise of Bachelors. In addition to their graceful and extremely moving Said I Had a Vision: Songs of David Lee LP, they just started exclusively distributing the long lost Tobacco A-Go-Go, Vol. 1 LP comp from old school local label, Blue Mold Records. Acting almost like a more localized Nuggets or Pebbles compilation, this collection was strictly dedicated to North Carolina ’60s garage and psych.

That album cover is amazing!

A box of these still-sealed LPs turned up at the home of the man who originally put them out in 1984. Wait a second. Let’s slow down that sentence and go back over it. A box of an original 1984 pressing of a 1960s North Carolina garage comp was found with each record still sealed and unplayed, locally, by the man who released it. Yup. Now these records have hit local record stores and the general public at a normal, non-collector’s price point. Fourteen bucks. It’s not necessarily gonna blow garage/psych minds all over again, but from a collector’s standpoint and as someone who appreciates the archival nature of certain compilations, I just about mussed my pants when these came across the counter. This compilation archives 45s of bands from within or very close to the Durham/Chapel Hill/Raleigh area from the 1960s – I would otherwise not have really had any kind of a chance to stumble upon these dusty, local gems.

Unwrapping something that was sealed 25 years ago…and then being the first to access the music off of it, is a thrill that almost can’t be beat. But then again, I’m a nerd for music.

This is an awesome find! My husband’s Dad was a guitarist for the Turks (last song). We’d love to have a copy ourselves!! This album is part of a trilogy. My Dad’s band, the Nomads, had a song on one of the other albums of the set.
